In the upcoming Premier League season, Manchester City has a very clear task: to try and close the gap with Liverpool—the vast difference that last season handed the crown to the Reds. The Citizens’ first signings are moving precisely in this direction, but how much will they impact the club’s finances?

Manchester City: The Cost of New Signings

So far, Manchester City has spent around €112 million on three signings: Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and Tijjani Reijnders. Ait-Nouri was signed from Wolverhampton for a fee that could reach €36 million. Rayan Cherki was bought from Lyon for €34 million, while Tijjani Reijnders joined from Milan for €55 million. To this expenditure, the club must also add the investments made in last January’s window—about €203 million for players like Khusanov, Marmoush, and Gonzalez.

The Impact on the Budget

So far, with the transfer market still open, City has a negative balance of around €105 million. The financial year ending in June 2024 closed with a profit of about €75 million, on revenues of roughly €900 million and operating costs exceeding €780 million. Despite the heavy spending from January to now, City can still rely on a solid financial cushion, thanks to the €195 million profit accumulated over the last three years, also supported by income from player trading.

Total Spending and Future Projections

While total spending from January to June exceeded €300 million, Manchester City can still rest easy thanks to a net profit—between sponsorships and commercial deals—of around €74 million, with revenues of €860 million. The club’s solid foundation has allowed its management to afford these transfer fees without particular concern. Now, attention must shift to future capital gains, hoping City can reclaim the Premier League title—thanks in part to these key signings.
