Botafogo – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
With the financial backing of John Textor, Botafogo is determined not to repeat the immense embarrassment of last year when they lost the Brasileirão to Palmeiras despite having a 15-point lead.
So far, the Rio de Janeiro team seems to have left the bad times behind, as they have repeated a great first half of the season.
Starting the second half of the tournament, they are still in the top position with 43 points. Flamengo is the runner-up with 40 points and a game in hand.
Among the five most expensive signings of the 2024 Brasileirão winter transfer window, Botafogo made two, including the most expensive one.
Textor shelled out €19.5 million to sign Thiago Almada, with a contract until 2029.
The Argentine has always been highly regarded since his beginnings at Vélez Sarsfield.
He was then sold to Atlanta United in the United States for €14.5 million.
He performed very well there, scoring 26 goals and providing 24 assists in 83 matches.
He also had a good Olympic Games, scoring two goals in four matches.
Now, he should be available to strengthen Botafogo in their quest for the title.
The fourth most expensive player of the window was Matheus Martins.
A product of their rivals, Fluminense, the midfielder/winger was sold to Udinese for €6 million in January 2023.
In Europe, he didn’t even get to play for the Italian team. He was loaned to Watford, where he had a reasonable Championship season.
Most of the time, he came off the bench. He played 49 matches, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists.
As usual in Brazilian football, young talents who don’t establish themselves in Europe are quickly reabsorbed by the local market.
Botafogo paid €10 million to sign Matheus Martins permanently, with a contract until the end of 2028.
Do you think these reinforcements will be enough for Botafogo to win the Brasileirão?

Bahia – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
The City Group also continued their investment pattern and opened their coffers.
Liverpool Montevideo’s forward, Luciano Rodriguez, was sought after by major clubs in Brazil and Europe.
Many outlets almost confirmed his move to Palmeiras, who showed interest in the player, but the figures were off-putting.
Not for Bahia, though.
Bahia’s €11 million bid was accepted by Liverpool Montevideo.
He has already made his debut in the Brasileirão.

Palmeiras – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Palmeiras finally decided to open their wallet.
However, this spending might be considered modest given the substantial amounts raised from the sales of Endrick, Jhon Jhon, and Estevão.
Nonetheless, this is how the management prefers to operate: with a lean but quality squad.
Firstly, Felipe Anderson was able to debut with the opening of the window and has already played six matches for the team, coming off the bench in most of them.
Having been out of action for a while, he is being gradually introduced to the team to regain his match fitness.
Palmeiras decided to look at the domestic market and paid €10.5 million to sign Maurício from Internacional.
The player, since his time at Cruzeiro, was expected to pursue a career abroad, but that hasn’t happened so far.
He moved to Inter for just €180,000 due to contractual issues and the dire situation at Cruzeiro.
Additionally, Palmeiras went to Argentina to sign one of the country’s most promising full-backs.
Giay, who plays as a wing-back in a three-centre-back system, could fit perfectly into Abel Ferreira’s scheme.
The player’s contract runs until the end of 2029, secured with a €7.2 million payment.

Cruzeiro – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
The Pedrinho BH era at Cruzeiro has begun.
Previously, we wrote an exclusive article about Cruzeiro, detailing the purchase of SAF shares by the businessman, who has already spent an incredible €37 million.
These amounts have led to the acquisitions of Matheus Henrique (€8.5 million from Sassuolo), Walace (€8 million from Udinese), Kaio Jorge (€7.2 million from Juventus), Matheus Pereira (€5 million from Al-Hilal), Peralta (€2.7 million from Cerro Porteño), Lautaro Diaz (€2.7 million from Independiente del Valle), João Marcelo (€1.5 million from Porto B), Jhonatan Jesus (€1.43 million from Ceará), and Cássio (free from Corinthians).
Atlético Mineiro – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Atlético Mineiro saw their biggest rival’s movements in the window and decided not to lag behind.
They went to the market seeking alternatives to strengthen their squad.
They brought in centre-back Lyanco, developed by São Paulo, with extensive experience abroad, for €4.5 million.
The same amount was paid to sign Fausto Vera from Corinthians. This signing is somewhat puzzling, as the Argentine failed to show any positive consistency with the São Paulo team.
This doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the potential to recover.
The opening of the window also allowed the debut of Bernard, a fan favourite and Copa Libertadores 2013 champion.
The “joyful legs” player has travelled the world, playing in the Premier League, United Arab Emirates, Greece, and Ukraine.
Another familiar face strengthened the Atlético Mineiro squad. Taking advantage of FIFA’s mechanism, the Minas Gerais team went to Russia and paid €1.1 million for Paraguayan defender Junior Alonso.

Grêmio – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Grêmio followed the guidance of their coach, Renato Gaúcho, and went to the market.
The most high-profile signing came at no cost. Former Barcelona player, Danish Martin Braithwaite, chose the Tricolor Gaúcho.
Additionally, they acquired young players to mix with the experienced players already in the squad.
Among them, left winger Aravena came from Universidad Católica for €3.2 million.
Uruguayan striker Matias Arezo from Granada for €3 million and Colombian attacking midfielder Miguel Monsalve from Independiente Medellín.
Finally, they bought defender Jamerson from Atlético Mineiro for €700,000.

Internacional – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Internacional, who should be reinforcing like never before, brought in just one player.
After signing names like Borré and Alario at the beginning of the year, the Colorado paid €4 million for Thiago Maia and that’s it.
Additionally, they signed Vitão permanently, at no cost, from Shakhtar Donetsk.
On the other hand, they lost some important players like Maurício, Aranguiz, and Hugo Mallo.
Internacional is in danger in the Brasileirão, sitting just in 16th place, despite having only 16 matches; 5 fewer than most teams.
Corinthians – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Corinthians really needed to reinforce their squad to try and escape the relegation zone.
Therefore, they brought in centre-back André Ramalho for free from PSV.
Additionally, they brought in a replacement for Cássio and Carlos Miguel, who went to Cruzeiro and Nottingham Forest, respectively.
The chosen one was Hugo Souza, popularly known as Hugo Neneca. The goalkeeper played in Portugal last season and was loaned by Flamengo to Corinthians for €200,000.
Lastly, they paid €2.2 million for defensive midfielder Alex Santana from Athletico Paranaense and €1.8 million for Charles from Midtjylland.
The signing of Alex Santana is one of those difficult to understand. The player wasn’t at his best with Athletico Paranaense, not even being a regular starter.
Even so, amidst an unprecedented financial crisis, the disastrous Corinthians management opted to pay the equivalent of almost R$14 million.
Vasco da Gama – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Vasco da Gama went to the market and reinforced their squad without spending much.
They bought defensive midfielder Hugo Moura for €2 million, but the highlight was the return of Philippe Coutinho, who came on loan from Aston Villa for free.
The midfielder made some demands to return to the team that developed him, which included the signing of Souza from Istanbul Basaksehir and Alex Teixeira. Both came for free.
Interestingly, Alex Teixeira was without a club, with his last team being Vasco da Gama itself.

Fluminense – 2024 Brasileirão Winter Transfer Window Signings
Fluminense made important signings this window.
With its opening, the signing of Thiago Silva, one of the greatest defenders in history, was announced.
Incredibly, at 39 years old, he has already played four matches and has been absolutely fundamental in the team’s comeback in the Brasileirão, after languishing at the bottom of the table.
Additionally, Fluminense went to the South American market to reinforce the team. They brought in defensive midfielder Facundo Bernal, a Uruguayan from Defensor, for €3 million.
They spent €2 million on defender Ignacio, a Brazilian who was at Sporting Cristal, and Serna, a right winger who was at Alianza Lima.
Finally, Nonato returned to the Tricolor Carioca from Santos, on a free loan.

Other Teams
Flamengo, famous for being the biggest spender in the transfer window, seems to have their squad ready as they didn’t acquire any players.
Juventude, Atlético Goianiense, Athletico Paranaense, Criciúma, and Vitória made occasional signings without costs, to complete their squads.
Which of these signings have been the most sensational of the window so far?
