PSG is the strongest team in Europe — and Luis Campos deserves part of the credit.
The defeat in the Club World Cup final against Chelsea does little to overshadow a season that saw Paris Saint-Germain lift Ligue 1, the national cup, and, most importantly, the Champions League. A winning cycle carried forward by Luis Enrique and by a man behind the scenes who’s making a real impact: Luis Campos.
Who is Luis Campos
Portuguese, and widely respected for his scouting acumen, Campos first made a name for himself at Monaco and then at Lille, where he helped spark winning cycles. He joined PSG in 2022 as a football advisor and was promoted by Nasser Al-Khelaifi following a season that called for a complete overhaul.
His strategy
His vision wasn’t immediately embraced at a club known for big-name signings and astronomical spending (Messi and Neymar above all). Campos aimed to shift that approach, relying on a vast scouting network to identify young players with high potential. That strategy led to key signings such as Vitinha from Porto for €40 million, Nuno Mendes from Sporting CP for €39 million, and later additions like Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola.
A winning philosophy
A blend of young talent and a coach who knows how to nurture it: under Luis Enrique’s guidance — and with a squad built by Luis Campos to fit the coach’s vision — PSG has dominated domestically since 2023, and now, finally, across Europe as well.
Despite a few missteps in the transfer market, Campos’ strategy has brought both sporting and financial success. It has given Luis Enrique’s side a solid tactical foundation, and the Champions League triumph is proof that money alone isn’t enough. In modern football, planning and long-term vision always make the difference.
