The 2024/2025 football season has brought back excitement and passion to the stands of Italian stadiums. After years of ups and downs caused by health restrictions, declining interest, and outdated infrastructure, fans are once again filling the seats in Serie A, creating scenes that had been sorely missed. We’re not just talking about ultras or choreography: we’re talking about real, measurable numbers that prove the unwavering love of fans for their teams. But which club truly has the most loyal fan base in the stands? And which are doing the best job engaging with their supporters?

Milan leads the way: Milan and Inter untouchable

At the top of the attendance rankings is AC Milan, with an average of 71,715 spectators per match, closely followed by Inter with 70,052. The message is clear: San Siro remains the beating heart of Italian football. Both clubs sold around 40,000 season tickets, proof of a solid and passionate base that supports the team every weekend.

Roma and Napoli follow

AS Roma takes third place with more than 62,000 fans per game and 38,000 season tickets sold. These numbers confirm the strong bond between club and supporters. Napoli, 2022/23 champions, average nearly 51,000 spectators with 22,000 season tickets, while Lazio, despite having over 43,000 per game, struggles to fill the Stadio Olimpico, with only a 64.2% average capacity.

Juventus and the paradox of loyalty

Juventus shows an interesting contrast. The Allianz Stadium is nearly always full, with a 97.8% capacity rate, the highest among the top clubs. However, the number of season tickets sold is only 19,200, far below its rivals. This could point to a more occasional fan base or a pricing policy that doesn’t favor die-hard supporters. Still, in terms of attendance density, Juve remains among the top.

Surprise packages: Genoa, Lecce, and Cagliari

Among smaller clubs, a few fan bases stand out for their passion and loyalty. Genoa exceeded 28,000 season tickets, comparable to Italy’s biggest clubs. Lecce sold 21,677 and consistently filled the Via del Mare. Cagliari registered the highest occupancy rate in Serie A: 98.2%, surpassing even the big names. Meanwhile, Como, newly promoted, stunned everyone with a 97.2% average.

Serie A: record-breaking engagement

Serie A averaged 30,761 spectators per match, up from 29,700 the previous season. Even more impressive was the average occupancy rate of 91.99%, compared to 83% in 2023/2024. This proves that clubs are improving engagement, fan experience, and marketing strategies. Even with aging stadiums, fans are making their presence felt again.

What do these numbers really say?

The ranking of the most present fan bases is not just statistics—it’s a snapshot of the health of Italian football. Where stadiums are full, there’s passion, planning, and a sense of belonging. The next challenge is to maintain these numbers, improve stadium experience, and invest in modern infrastructure. Because when it comes to football, the attendance numbers never lie.
