Flamengo is the champion of the 2024 Copa do Brasil

Flamengo defeated Atlético-MG once again, lifting the 2024 Copa do Brasil trophy at the MRV Arena.

With a 4-1 win on aggregate, Flamengo became the second most successful club in the competition’s history.

Atlético-MG 0-1 Flamengo

In the first leg, Flamengo beat Atlético, known as “Galo,” at Maracanã by 3-1, with Gabigol scoring twice.

The second leg broke attendance and revenue records at MRV Arena, with 44,876 fans and revenue over 10 million reais.

Before the game, Galo’s fans put on a great show with banners on the field, a 3D mosaic, and chants of “I believe!”

In the 3rd minute, Arrascaeta made a beautiful pass to Gerson, who went one-on-one with Everson, but the keeper made a good save.

In the 5th minute, Hulk passed to Paulinho in the box, who set up Zaracho, but his shot went wide.

In the 14th minute, Hulk took a long free kick, which Rossi saved and pounced on for the rebound.

In the 16th minute, Gabigol received the ball on the left wing and shot towards the middle of the box. The ball deflected off Lyanco, passed by Everson and Arrascaeta, and went out for a goal kick.

In the 18th minute, Zaracho found Hulk at the edge of the area. Hulk struck it powerfully, but Rossi blocked it. On the rebound, Rossi cleared with his foot to prevent Paulinho from finishing.

In the 25th minute, Wesley played a lovely one-two with Gerson, crossed, and Arrascaeta headed it with great danger, but the ball went over the goal.

In the 28th minute, Everton Araújo received the ball and took a placed shot from the edge of the box, which Everson saved and sent out for a corner.

In the 36th minute, Rossi and Pulgar made an error in the build-up, giving possession to Paulinho in the box. The striker attempted a volley, but Rossi made an impressive save.

At halftime, Milito brought on Saravia and Alan Kardec for Lyanco and Otávio, while Filipe Luís subbed in Bruno Henrique for Gabigol.

In the 6th minute of the second half, Hulk took a long free kick that Rossi caught.

In the 7th minute, Bruno Henrique burst forward, entered the box, and shot. Everson made a fantastic save, sending the ball out for a corner.

In the 9th minute, Scarpa took a placed shot, and Alex Sandro deflected it out for a corner with his head.

In the 18th minute, Bruno Henrique won a duel with Saravia and broke free in front of Everson. He tried a chip shot, but Everson managed to deflect it away.

In the 21st minute, Wesley passed to Bruno Henrique in the box, Everson challenged, and the ball rolled to Michael. Michael tried to dribble Everson, who made the save.

In the 22nd minute, Wesley led a counterattack, passed to Gerson, who sent a low cross, but Michael couldn’t finish, and Galo’s defense cleared the danger.

In the 35th minute, Bruno Henrique drove through the middle and passed to Plata, who entered the box and crossed perfectly to Alex Sandro. The left-back shot powerfully, but Everson pulled off another spectacular save.

In the 37th minute, Hulk crossed into the box, Junior Alonso knocked it down, and Alan Kardec missed an incredible chance. Immediately after, Bruno Henrique launched a counter and played it to Plata. The forward dribbled past Saravia and chipped Everson, scoring the only goal of the match.

Flamengo held a big advantage, making it 4-1 on aggregate.

After Gonzalo Plata’s goal, tensions flared, and chaos erupted. There was a scuffle between players and staff on the pitch, a fan ran onto the field, fans threw cups and objects, and even two bombs were thrown onto the field, one in the first half. Match hero Plata even fell on the ground after being hit.

In the 47th minute, Bruno Henrique led another counterattack, entered the box, and passed to Wesley, who struck hard, but Everson made another great save.

In the 51st minute, Bruno Henrique won a battle with Saravia. The Argentine fouled him and was sent off as the last defender. David Luiz shot towards the corner, and Everson sent it out for a corner.

Flamengo claimed their fifth Copa do Brasil title, becoming the second most successful team in the tournament alongside Grêmio. Both trail Cruzeiro, who hold six titles.
