The nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or

The France Football magazine has revealed the 30 nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Join us in following the nominees for the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best U-21 player of the season, and the Yashin Trophy, given to the best goalkeeper. Additionally, there are nominees for the best coach in both men’s and women’s football, the female player of the year, and the club of the year.

The award ceremony will take place on October 28 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. This year marks the first time the prestigious prize will be organized in partnership with UEFA.

2024 Ballon d’Or Nominees

Among the 30 nominees, the athletes with the best chance of winning the award are Vini Jr. and Jude Bellingham, both Real Madrid players. Midfielder Rodri, from Manchester City, is also in the running.

Real Madrid won the Champions League in the 2023/24 season and is the club with the most players among the nominees, with six names. They are: Vini Jr., Jude Bellingham, Toni Kroos, Valverde, Carvajal, and Rüdiger.

For the first time since 2003, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not among the Ballon d’Or nominees.

The top favorite to win the Kopa Trophy is 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who won the Euro Cup with Spain and was one of the key players in the competition. Up until the final, Yamal was just 16 years old, celebrating his birthday one day before the final.

Established in 2019 by France Football, the Yashin Trophy is awarded to the best goalkeeper of the season, and for the first time, no Brazilian goalkeeper is among the nominees.

The big surprise on the list is South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who won the African Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The main favorites are Dibu Martínez, who won the award in 2023, and Mike Maignan, who were named the best goalkeepers in the Copa América and Euro Cup, respectively.
