Champions League draw

The eight groups of the Champions League were drawn at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. With the prohibition of matchups between teams from the same country in this stage, the participants were divided into four pots. In the first one, the top seeds were placed, the champions of the major competitions from the previous season.

PSG, as a top seed due to winning the French Championship, landed in the group of death and will face Borussia Dortmund, Milan, and Newcastle.

Grupo A

  • Bayern de Munique (Alemanha)
  • Manchester United (Inglaterra)
  • Copenhagen (Dinamarca)
  • Galatasaray (Turquia)

The group will feature a rematch of a final. Manchester United will face Bayern Munich, just like in the 1998/99 decision. In their last encounter, the Germans came out on top in 2013/14, during the quarter-finals.

Bayern Munich is the favorite to claim the top spot in the group, as they have done in the last 5 seasons, achieving a perfect record in 3 of them.

Meanwhile, Manchester United outmatches Galatasaray and Copenhagen, making it expected for the Red Devils to secure the second spot.

Grupo B

  • Sevilla (Espanha)
  • Arsenal (Inglaterra)
  • PSV (Holanda)
  • Lens (França)

Sevilla, the reigning champion of the Europa League, had a modest position in the Spanish La Liga, while Arsenal had an impressive performance in the English Premier League, narrowly missing out on the title in the final rounds.

Lens and PSV were runners-up in their respective national leagues, with special mention to the French team, which had a surprising campaign, finishing just 1 point behind the leader PSG.

As a result, Arsenal is the favorite to top the group, while the second spot promises to have a fierce competition among the other contenders.

Grupo C

  • Napoli (Itália)
  • Real Madrid (Espanha)
  • Braga (Portugal)
  • Union Berlin (Alemanha)

After 33 years, Napoli once again lifted the Scudetto, playing the most attractive football of the season for a certain period. However, with the change in coaching staff, it’s hard to predict how the team will perform.

Real Madrid, the most successful team in the Champions League, always enters the competition as one of the main favorites.

Braga and Union Berlin are unlikely to pose a challenge to Napoli and Real Madrid. Therefore, the spots that grant qualification to the round of 16 should go to the Italian champions and the most successful team in the Champions League.

Grupo D

  • Benfica (Portugal)
  • Inter de Milão (Itália)
  • RB Salzburg (Áustria)
  • Real Sociedad (Espanha)

In the previous edition, Benfica and Inter Milan faced each other in the quarter-finals. The Italian club came out on top, being the runner-up of the 22/23 Champions League.

Benfica clinched the Portuguese championship, while Internazionale secured 3rd place. Therefore, both teams are the favorites to claim the top spots, while RB Salzburg and Real Sociedad are the dark horses.

Grupo E

  • Feyenoord (Holanda)
  • Atlético de Madrid (Espanha)
  • Lazio (Itália)
  • Celtic (Escócia)

Feyenoord is the reigning Dutch champion, while Atlético de Madrid and Lazio secured 3rd and 2nd places respectively.

It’s a balanced group in which Feyenoord, Atlético de Madrid, and Lazio all have a chance to claim any of the top 3 spots. Despite being the Scottish champion, Celtic is the weakest team in the group.

Grupo F

  • Paris Saint-Germain (França)
  • Borussia Dortmund (Alemanha)
  • Milan (Itália)
  • Newcastle (Inglaterra)

The “Group of Death” is a complete unknown, as PSG, theoretically the strongest team, is undergoing a reconstruction. Borussia Dortmund let the German league slip away in the final round. Milan reached the semifinals of the Champions League, and Newcastle, under the control of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, secured fourth place in the toughest national league in the world, leaving the giant Liverpool out of the competition.

Thus, the group is so balanced that any team could take any position from first to fourth.

Grupo G

  • Manchester City (Inglaterra)
  • RB Leipzig (Alemanha)
  • Estrela Vermelha (Sérvia)
  • Young Boys (Suíça)

The current champion, Manchester City, is the clear favorite to top the group, with their main rival being RB Leipzig. However, when the teams faced each other in the round of 16 of the previous edition, City won the second-leg match 7-0.

Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys, despite being national champions, are unlikely to snatch a spot from their competitors.

Grupo H

  • Barcelona (Espanha)
  • Porto (Portugal)
  • Shakhtar Donetsk (Ucrânia)
  • Royal Antwerp (Bélgica)

Finally, Barcelona, the current Spanish champion, is the favorite to claim the top spot in the group. Porto and Shakhtar are expected to vie for the second position, while the underdog is Royal Antwerp.
