With just a few days left before training camps kick off for the new season, Inter are taking a short break following their bitter elimination from the Club World Cup at the hands of Fluminense. A true technical and mental revolution will be needed — it’s time to hit the reset button, because much has changed.

Inter, a New Era Begins with Chivu

The season ended without a single trophy for Inter — hard to believe considering that in April, the Nerazzurri were still competing for every title. Then fatigue took over, a clear sign that the cycle had reached its end. Simone Inzaghi has now left, and Christian Chivu has taken his place. In the matches played in the U.S. during the Club World Cup, Inter showed some signs of a new approach. It’s clear Chivu will need time to implement his system, but some early signs are already visible.

Defense Confirmed

Much will depend on the starting lineup and the new additions from the transfer window. At least on paper, the defensive unit will remain unchanged. Sommer will stay in goal, with the back three of Pavard, Acerbi, and Bastoni. Reserves like Bisseck and de Vrij still provide solid options. Age is catching up, of course, which is why Marotta may look to the market for a long-term reinforcement. The favorite remains Leoni from Parma.

Inter and the Calhanoglu Dilemma

Many decisions will need to be made in midfield. Dumfries and Dimarco are expected to stay on the flanks, but the situation around Calhanoglu is increasingly uncertain — he looks set to leave. Barella and Mkhitaryan will remain key players, while Sucic and Luis Henrique have arrived and will need time to adapt to Serie A. The Turkish midfielder’s potential departure could open a spot for a new talent, especially as Chivu favors a younger squad with strong development potential.

Lautaro Still the Leader

Lautaro Martínez will remain the team’s technical and emotional leader. Marcus Thuram could be sold if a substantial offer arrives — in that case, alongside Bonny and Esposito, Inter may look to bring in a physically imposing striker. The top target remains Moise Kean. Inter are determined to bounce back after a grueling and exhausting season. The goal: reset and increase the pressure on Napoli in the race for the title.
