Things are difficult at Liverpool these days following the tragic death of Diogo Jota, the Portuguese footballer who passed away along with his brother. These are days of silence, and in this case, even trying to talk about football feels difficult. It will also be a challenge for the Reds to refocus on the upcoming season, as this loss will inevitably affect Arne Slot’s preparations with the squad. Turning the page, however, may help keep Diogo Jota’s memory alive in the hearts and minds of everyone in the Liverpool family.
Liverpool already making headlines with Wirtz signing
After winning the Premier League last season, Slot’s team is aiming to repeat the feat. While the club’s management opted for minimal spending last year, this summer has seen a completely different approach. From Bayer Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz arrived for €125 million and Jeremie Frimpong for €40 million. The defense was also reinforced with Milos Kerkez, signed from Bournemouth for around €47 million. In goal, Giorgi Mamardashvili, acquired last season, will finally join the squad.
The Reds’ core remains intact
It’s clear that the core of the team will remain unchanged. The tactical and technical dominance shown last season is a sign of a well-oiled group which, even after Jürgen Klopp’s departure, continues on the same path under the guidance of the Dutch coach.
While the defense is Liverpool’s safe haven, midfield and attack are the real jewels of Slot’s system: work rate from Alexis Mac Allister, creativity from Dominik Szoboszlai, and up front, all the unpredictability of Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Díaz — though the latter remains a target on Barcelona’s radar. We’ll have to see how much the Blaugrana are willing to offer for the Colombian, but even if he were to leave, it wouldn’t worry a strong team that, after last season’s success, will be eager to go for it again.
