Palmeiras close to the title: Flamengo 0x3 Atlético-MG

Before the round, Flamengo and Palmeiras shared the top two positions with 63 points. However, Flamengo suffered a heavy defeat and was overtaken by Atlético-MG, while Palmeiras lived up to its favoritism, delivering a resounding 4-0 win against the bottom-placed América-MG, securing a 3-point lead over the second-placed Botafogo.

Flamengo 0x3 Atlético-MG

Playing in the style of Felipão, Atlético-MG put on a show and defeated Flamengo 3-0 at Maracanã.

Galo opened the scoring early in the game. At the 7th minute, Hulk received a beautiful aerial pass from Igor Gomes and set up Paulinho. The top scorer of Brasileirão entered the box and shot past Rossi.

With the advantage on the scoreboard, Galo closed ranks masterfully in defense and posed a threat on counter-attacks. Felipão’s team played so well that it left Flamengo bewildered in the first half. With a lot of passing exchanges, Flamengo struggled in marking.

At the 13th minute, Otávio took a long shot, and Rossi made a good save, sending it for a corner.

At the 42nd minute, Matheuzinho delivered a free-kick into the box, Bruno Henrique headed well, but Éverson made a great save.

Returning for the second half, Tite’s strategy fell apart early on as Galo extended their lead with a deadly counter-attack. With Flamengo’s defense completely exposed, Zaracho launched Paulinho with speed in midfield. The forward passed to Edenílson, who advanced and, face to face with Rossi, sent it into the back of the net.

With a 2-0 lead, Galo comfortably waited to execute more speedy plays and attempt to pose a threat. Meanwhile, Flamengo did little, allowing Atlético-MG to stay comfortable.

In another counter-attack, Galo sealed the deal. At the 36th minute, Edenílson made a beautiful pass to Pavón on the right. The winger crossed low, and Rubens appeared at the far post to complete the rout.

With the victory, Galo surpassed Flamengo in the standings and, although challenging, dreams of the Brasileirão title.

Palmeiras 4×0 América-MG

Due to Flamengo’s defeat and Botafogo’s draw, Palmeiras is getting closer to the Brasileirão title.

They confirmed their favoritism and routed América-MG at Allianz Parque. The match against the bottom team posed no difficulty.

In the first minute, Raphael Veiga delivered a free-kick into the box, and the defense cleared poorly. Endrick collected the rebound and shot from outside the box to open the scoring.

At the 3rd minute, Rony was launched and had an ugly collision with goalkeeper Jori, who hit the striker’s arm with his knee. Rony had to be substituted and broke his arm.

Palmeiras extended the lead at the 39th minute. Veiga delivered a free-kick into the box, and Éder scored an own goal.

The game was completely dominated by Palmeiras, with América creating no dangerous opportunities.

In the second half, Breno Lopes, with a beautiful pass from Endrick, had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper but missed the finish.

At the 42nd minute, Piquerez advanced from the left and crossed perfectly for Flaco López to score Verdão’s third goal.

There was still time for one more goal. At the 46th minute, Veiga delivered a corner, Jaílson nodded it to the middle, and Flaco López headed it into the back of the net.

With the victory, Palmeiras opened up a 3-point lead over the second-placed team and could become the champion in the next round.

Coritiba 1×1 Botafogo

In a dramatic match, Botafogo scored in stoppage time, staying just 1 point behind the leader Palmeiras, but conceded the equalizer to the already relegated Coritiba at the 54th minute.

In an empty Couto Pereira, Coritiba and Botafogo played a balanced game, with few emotions. The home team had chances with Marcelino Moreno and Diogo Oliveira, while the visitors attempted with Eduardo and Victor Sá.

At the 28th minute, Eduardo made a sliding tackle on Andrey’s calf. After VAR consultation, the referee sent off the midfielder.

With a player advantage, Coxa slightly improved and had a great chance at the 36th minute. Natanael delivered an excellent cross, Diogo Oliveira headed inside the small box but missed the target.

Coritiba “returned the favor” at the 48th minute. Jamerson tackled Júnior Santos from behind, and this time, the referee didn’t hesitate and gave a straight red card without VAR consultation.

In the second half, Marcelino Moreno for Coxa and Cuesta for Botafogo had chances to open the scoring but couldn’t.

In the last minute of the game, Carlos Alberto was brought down in the box, and Botafogo was awarded a penalty. With the immense pressure surrounding the moment, many Botafogo players didn’t even look at the kick. Thus, Tiquinho took responsibility and executed it well, leaving Glorioso just 1 point behind Palmeiras, keeping the title hope alive.

When everything seemed settled, Botafogo suffered a harsh blow in the most dramatic way possible. Natanael received a beautiful pass from Marcelino Moreno and crossed to Edu, who was alone, to complete and equalize the match, much to the despair of Botafogo fans.

With the draw, Glorioso rose to the 2nd position, but now even the most fanatic supporter believes in the title that was in their hands for so long.
