Palmer scores 4 goals and Chelsea thrashes Everton

Cole Palmer is having a sensational season, being the main player for Chelsea and, despite being a midfielder, he shares the Premier League’s top scorer position with Haaland, both with 20 goals.

Chelsea defeated Everton 6-0, and Palmer put on a show, scoring a hat-trick in just 29 minutes.

At 9 minutes, Coleman received a pass from Young on the right and crossed to Beto. The Portuguese redirected the ball in the box but sent it over the goal.

At 12 minutes, Palmer’s magical night began. The midfielder nutmegged Branthwaite, exchanged passes with Nicolas Jackson, and placed a shot from outside the box to open the scoring.

At 17 minutes, Mudryk broke into the box and passed to Jackson, who took a shot. Pickford made the save, but Palmer headed in the rebound.

At 28 minutes, Pickford made a mistake in distribution, Palmer intercepted the pass, and chipped the ball over him to score his third goal of the game.

At 35 minutes, Young crossed and Beto scored with a header, but the assistant referee disallowed the goal as the Portuguese was in an offside position.

At 44 minutes, Cucurella crossed, Jackson controlled the ball, and stylishly finished to score another for Chelsea.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Palmer was fouled by Doucouré, resulting in a penalty. However, there was much discussion about who would take it. Forward Madueke wanted to take it, and Nicolas Jackson advocated for him. It took captain Gallagher’s intervention and a tense discussion, but Palmer eventually took the ball, curled it, and scored. Thiago Silva also tried to calm things down.

At 45 minutes, Chilwell shot from the left side, Pickford gave a rebound, and 20-year-old Gilchrist scored his first professional goal, completing Chelsea’s celebration.

With the victory, Chelsea sits in 9th place in the Premier League with 47 points, while Everton is close to the relegation zone, in 16th place with 27 points.

After the Everton match, he became the first Chelsea player to score four goals in a Premier League match since Frank Lampard against Aston Villa in March 2010. On that occasion, the London team won 7-1.

The midfielder became the fastest Chelsea player to score a hat-trick in the club’s Premier League history, in just 29 minutes. Alongside Drogba, he is the only one to score 3 goals in two consecutive home games, as he had also netted a hat-trick against Manchester United in the last game at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer was the first player to score in 7 consecutive Premier League games at Stamford Bridge in the history of the Blues.

In the current season, at just 21 years old, Palmer has 24 goals and 15 assists, directly or indirectly contributing to 38 of Chelsea’s 87 goals in 2023/24, equivalent to over 43%.
