Vasco 1×0 Botafogo
Playing at São Januário, Vasco had a packed stadium and an enthusiastic crowd to defeat the league leaders, Botafogo. In this way, they surpassed Cruzeiro in the standings and ended the round outside the relegation zone.
Botafogo, on the other hand, saw their crisis deepen with the loss in the derby. At the beginning of the match, the Glorioso even showed signs of pressure, but after the first 10 minutes without converting their goal, they appeared as a demoralized team with shaken morale and ended up being dominated by Vasco for most of the contest.
At the 8th minute, Danilo Barbosa made a good individual play and passed to Victor Sá. The forward got past Medel, entered the box, but when attempting the shot, the ball struck the defender Maicon.
At the 14th minute, Marçal delivered a free-kick into the box, the defense cleared it, and Júnior Santos struck on the rebound, but the ball hit the marking again before reaching the goal.
Vasco scored their goal from one of their early chances created. At the 28th minute, Maicon made a beautiful pass to Paulo Henrique on the right. The full-back got past two defenders, cut inside, and struck with his left foot into the corner.

At the 45th minute, Paulo Henrique sprinted on the counter-attack, passed to Paulinho, and received the ball back in the box. The full-back crossed it for Gabriel Pec to send it into the back of the net with a sliding finish. It would have been Vasco’s second goal, but Paulo Henrique was in an offside position when he received the pass from Paulinho.
Towards the end of the first half, Vasco continued to press. Zé Gabriel seized a cross and even hit the Botafogo crossbar, but the play was nullified due to a handball by the very player who took the shot.
At the 47th minute, Piton made a good play, found Erick Marcus on the left, and the young player crossed to Paulinho, who headed dangerously close to the post.
Three minutes into the second half, Paulo Henrique picked up the loose ball from a free-kick and set up Paulinho on the left. The midfielder passed it to Pec, who took a first-time shot, but Perri sent it out for a corner.
Throughout the second half, Botafogo tried to go on the offensive but achieved little. In contrast, Vasco took advantage of opportunities on the counter-attack.
Botafogo relied on aerial plays to equalize. At the 35th minute, Tiquinho Soares had a mishap that was unexpected from the Brazilian league’s top scorer. Unmarked inside the box, the forward tried to capitalize on a scrappy play but badly missed the ball, leaving him alone and frustrated by the situation.

At the 46th minute, Vasco launched a counter-attack. After Piton’s cross, the defense cleared the ball poorly, and it fell to Vegetti, nearly in the small box. The Argentine took a first-time shot but skied it over the bar.
With the victory, Vasco overtook Cruzeiro and moved out of the relegation zone, while Botafogo further complicated their pursuit of the title.
